RULES:
- Competition open to all.
- All light weight teams to be weighed at designated place with an official present.
- Any team arriving late can hook to the existing load provided no teams are eliminated.
- Teams pulling in heavy contest must have at least one fresh horse (one horse that HAS NOT pulled in previous contest). In the event that there isn't enough teams to take up the prize money, any NON-WINNER can return (provided it is OK with sponsor organization putting on pull).
- 27 feet 6 inches is a qualified pull
- Ropes are 18 feet apart.
- If a horse steps on or over the rope, the pull will be disqualified.
- Measure distance to determine positions at the end of the contest. In case of a tie the next longest distance will determine finishing position.
- A contestant has three passes, not to exceed three minutes to get hooked on from the time he is called to hook.
- Each team has three attempts to qualify each load. They must make and attempt to make a pull and get a distance on their 1st. or 2nd. pull, if they do not they automatically forfeit their 3rd. pull. (at judges discretion).
- From the time the distance is measured and the stake is moved, one minute will be allowed between 1st. and 2nd. pull, otherwise contestant forfeits the 2nd. pull. (Teams may unhook with the time limit).
- Two hookers-plus two men to drive in (if needed) will be allowed (limit 5). All helpers are to stay behind eveners and remain silent once team is hooked.
- If a helper goes to the teams head, the team must unhook and circle before rehooking.
- Driver is compelled to ride and stay seated during the pull.
- No change of drivers or bridles during the contest.
- May change sides with horses - IF TIME PERMITTED.
- In case of break down, team will go to the end of the line-up.
- No line slapping. No helpers or drivers touching horses inside the ropes during contest.
